Asthma: Your Lungs Are Like The Carburetor On A Car

Learning to calculate how much your lungs are over breathing is not that difficult. In fact, it is a simple calculation to work out by what factor you are overbreathing. Divide 60 by your pause and multiply by 100%.

For example a pause of 30 gives 200%. This means you breathing enough for two people. If your pause is 60, your factor is 100%, which is just right. If your pause is 5 seconds, your factor is 60/5 x 100% equals 1200% or deeply enough for 12 people. [Note that as the time gets really smaller 'this estimation gets less accurate. Just be aware that whether it is 5 or 10 times too much' it is far too much!]

If your pause is that low then you are very unwell, and if you are not suffering symptoms of asthma, then you need to look into other Effects Of Chronic Low CO2.

As a general comparison, if you were to eat two or four or twelve times as much as you physically need, what would happen to you? Would you be healthy? The truth is that if you ate that much, then it would not take long for you to be morbidly obese.

Yet another way to look at this is using the analogy that compares your breathing to a carburetor on a motor. A carburetor is the device which controls the mixture of gases for a motor. You will know that when the mixture is wrong, the motor will run poorly or not at all. If it does run with a non-ideal mixture, the power will be reduced, the economy reduced, backfiring will occur, and the life of the engine will be reduced. The only thing that can improve this is to correct the mixtures by adjusting the carburetor.

It is the same with your lungs. If you have the wrong mixture of gases in your lungs, your body will have low power, use too much fuel, will backfire, and will wear out much sooner. All you have to do is tune your carburetor. That is what Buteyko is going to teach you to do. Your respiratory centre or breathostat is the carburetor for your lungs.

Natural Asthma Remedies For Alternative Asthma Treatment

Natural asthma treatment versus conventional medical science:

The medicines for asthma often involves the use of an inhaler and/or a nebulizer, which can bring instant relief of asthma symptoms. What if the medicine causes unwanted side effects? Those who are allergic to asthma medicines find themselves in a predicament. There are a number of reportedly effective natural asthma remedies. Of course, since the FDA does not endorse these, it may take more time to be accepted by the general public. The point is, that you do have choices if you are willing to try them.

As a overall statement, Mother Nature has provided a cure for every disease known to mankind. Sometimes, humans underestimate the force of Mother Nature and proportionately overestimate their capacity to intervene. It is true that modern science has achieved the capacity for miraculous results. However, it is still far behind the breathtaking power of nature. One of the most popular natural remedies is homeopathy. This can be given over many years without any fear of having any harmful reactions. There are also a number of herbs that can be used as an alternative asthma treatment. However, their ability will be proportionate to the capability of the person who specializes in herbal medicines.

Hypnosis and acupuncture are also viable natural treatments. Though they cannot be labelled strictly as natural asthma remedies, they can provide natural long-term relief to both children and adults. The only thing that one must consider in this case of trying out a hypnotherapy session is the certification of the hypnotist. You will find hypnosis listed under natural cure for asthma and many find it a good alternative. The success of this method of treatment depends upon the therapist and the patient?s state of mind.

Some find acupuncture a very effective method to treat asthma. This medical care involves stimulating of internal chemical reaction with the application of needles at particular nerve points. There is acupuncture, which involves needles to stimulate chemical reactions within the body to correct the existing imbalances. Many people reported that acupuncture is extremely helpful. One should be very careful however regarding the sterilization of the needles. A possible option is to to carry your own set with you, which can be thrown away after each session. For those who are squeamish about the use of needles, one can choose the use of acupressure, which acts on the same concept; however, instead of needles (puncturing of the skin) it uses pressure. This form of treatment is considered much safer than acupuncture.

Another supposedly effective alternative remedy for asthma is yoga. Yoga is an ancient science originating from India, whereby one does some particular exercises (the positions of which are called asanas) by which the problems inside the body and mind can be cured. Some people find it highly effective, while the strange body positions that the yoga involves horrify some people. It depends upon you if you would like to choose this type of any other natural cure for asthma.

How do you choose the right alternative asthma treatment for you? Before making up your mind, it would be good if you do your own research and judge for yourself. The best method to find out what could be the best choice for you is by asking friends and relatives. Another good manner of gathering accurate information is the utilization of the internet. Do some research and find out the merits and demerits of all the alternative remedies for asthma that you are interested in. One vital thing is to ensure is that none of the methods of treatment have any adverse effects that could act detrimentally against your asthma instead of alleviating symptoms. It would be better if you consult a doctor before you embark on any ?unconventional course of action? with the proposed natural asthma remedy. Most family doctors have a good and up-to-date knowledge of the best available options.

Modern day advances in the medicine field have seen us tackle many diseases with ease. One such disease is Asthma. Asthma hampers the breathing of the patient by restricting the lungs. This condition is further heightened when the patient suffers an asthma attack. The asthma attacks could last for several minutes having fatal consequences. However, generally asthma is not a chronic disease and is a relatively common aliment. More often than not you will find an asthma patient in your vicinity.

If you have asthma it usually makes itself known in your childhood. Once you have been diagnosed with asthma it is rare that the condition will go away. However, it is possible. Scientists don't really know what exactly causes a person to become afflicted with asthma, but genetics is believed to play a large factor.

Over the years there has been a rise in the number of asthma patients. Though no clear reason has emerged to explain this but many believe it could one of the many ills of fast paced modern life arising from bad eating habits, stress and a polluted environment.

There are a variety of triggers for asthma attacks. A person can be affected by all of them or only some of them. The most common triggers for asthma attacks are exercise, smoking, dust, pollen, illness such as colds and flues, certain types of foods, and even sudden changes in air temperature.

The signs of an asthma attack become fairly apparent to a person who is afflicted with the condition. However, it is a good idea for those around that person to become familiar with the signs so they can assist should an asthma attack occur.

The signs are typically wheezing, coughing, breathlessness, and a tightness in the chest area. Most asthmatics have an inhaler containing medication to help control their asthma and these inhalers should be carried by an asthmatic at all times. If someone is suffering a serious asthma attack and they either don't have their inhaler, or it isn't working, call 911 immediately.

If you have asthma your doctor has probably prescribed an asthma reliever in a the form of an inhaler. Other than using your inhaler when an asthma attack strikes what can you do to help ease your asthma? Be sure to discuss prevention techniques with your doctor as they are the best resource. You can also find a variety of asthma support groups that discuss what it's like to live with asthma.

One of the easiest ways to help control your asthma is to identify what triggers typically cause your asthma attacks and avoid them as best you can. If you find your trigger is exercise you should discuss an alternative exercise program with your doctor. It is important to do a certain amount of physical activity each day but you need to find an exercise that doesn't aggravate your asthma.

Asthmatics need to take care of themselves and their health to avoid potentially dangerous asthma attacks. Informing those close to you of your condition if it is serious is also very important. Educating yourself and others about asthma is important to your well being. Being knowledgeable about asthma will help you to prevent attacks and deal with those attacks that do happen. Talk to your doctor about any concerns that you may have.

German Medicine Homoeopathy For Asthma, Migraine And Chronic Ailments

>>  INSTANTLY PREVENT YOUR ASTHMA CLICK HERE <<

Dr. R. Thiyagarajan is a versatile personality - a leading homoeopath, psychologist, educationalist, researcher and so on.

He is exploring the homoeopathic healing powers in his website homoeocare.com extensively and visiting Sri Lanka. U.K., France and number of other global destinations monthly to share the wealth of his knowledge on homoeopathic healing powers for the last 10 years.

Some of his regular patients are ranging from the rural folks in Sri Lanka to the high officials in the World Bank.

I met Dr. R. Thiyagarajan recently in search of more on the healing power of the homoeopathy which was once introduced and inspired to me by Dr. Mohideen A. Rahaman, a homoeopath from Sri Lanka who is practising for the last three decades just opposite the colonial era Roxy Theatre of Colombo city.

Dr. Thiyagarajan is a healer with a human touch in diagnosing and solving problems whether it is physical or emotional. His Homoeocare Hospital in Trichi, a southern town of south Indian state of Tamil Nadu is witnessing his personal achievements.

His expanded hospital was recently opened in the presence of Parliamentarians, allopathic physicians, surgeons, skin specialists and so on, is an another recognition for him and the homoeopathy in large.

Dr. R. Thiyagarajan emphasized with much enthusiasm the developments of homoeopathy. He says: Ever since the birth of homoeopathy in Germany, in the year 1794, it has been practised by the doctors world over, However, the actual benefits of the homeopathic medical science have not reached every one.

As a result, millions of sufferers of chronic diseases are deprived of the homoeopathic treatment simply because of the ignorance about its existence! This is indeed cruel, as in the age of information, deprivation of the homeopathic advantage merely because of the lack of information is intolerable.

It is now possible for you to ask and know about the role of homoeopathy for a specific disease condition. For instance, you may ask: 'Does homeopathy have anything to offer for the treatment of Migraine or Asthma?' You will be offered genuine information as to what homoeopathy could offer for the said complaint.

You will be informed about the scope and limitation of homeopathy with respect to various diseases. However, it is not within the scope of this service to prescribe you any medicine over the Internet. If you want to consider homoeopathic treatment, you will be sent necessary information for the same.

Unlike other medicines, Homoeopathy medicines usually do not have any side effects. Their ability to cause structural damage is nil. The reason for this is that Homoeopathy medicines act by stimulating the body's own defense mechanism and healing powers. They do not have any chemical action, so they do not have the potential to cause any sustained damage.

The doses are given in sub-physiological quantities. So they can be given to children and adults alike without worrying about the dosage. Safe for every one.

Homoeopathy medicines are very effective - in both acute and chronic conditions. Homoeopathy in fact, is the only system of medicine which offers curative treatment (not palliative) to a large number of chronic ailments which have been labeled as 'incurable' by other schools of medicine. Homoeopathy medicines, if selected properly, give results faster than any other systems of medicine.

Homoeopathy medicine are usually dispensed as sweet sugar pills, which are very easy to take. Due to this reason, children readily agree to take Homeopathy medicines.

Homoeopathy treatment is affordable: Homoeopathy medicines are usually much cheaper than comparable allopathic and ayurvedic drugs. And also there is little stress on costly diagnostic procedures as homeopaths rely on the symptoms to find the right medicine for a person. So the overall cost of treatment is very little.

Still this may not appear so to many people in Western countries as Homoeopathy treatment is usually not covered by insurance companies. But that's myopic vision.

One has to think of long-term gains. Under proper Homoeopathy treatment not only the person's immediate complaints improve, but also his/her susceptibility to disease decreases as there is a general improvement in health. So in the long run, there is better health, less medical consultations and the cumulative cost is very low. Even otherwise, hasn't some wise man said. .."Health is the real Wealth"?....

Homoeopathy considers the complaints of a patient in totality. It views a person as a whole, as an integrated entity, and not as a mere collection of body parts. So it treats the person as a whole too. Thus one does not have to visit ten different 'specialists' for his/her ten different body parts. After all our body is more than a collection of parts! So Homoeopathy saves your time, money and health at the same time.

The Use Of Air Purifiers For Asthma Patients

>>  INSTANTLY PREVENT YOUR ASTHMA CLICK HERE <<

Have you ever given any attention to your breathing? You probably haven't, because we all generally take breathing for granted. The reason is that breathing is a subconscious activity. However, this is not possible for an asthmatic patient, as breathing is highly praised every moment.

In an asthma sufferer, the lungs and air passageways are affected. Consequently, it becomes very hard for them to breathe normally or properly. There is no absolute known prescription available for this condition. However, there are certain things that can be applied to curb the symptoms of asthma. The use of an air purifier can help to cure it.

Asthma includes two key components: constriction, and inflammation, which takes place in the air passageways. Due to constriction, the airways get narrowed as the surrounding muscles begin to tighten around them. On the other hand, inflammation causes irritation in the airways. Because of inflammation, the airways get swollen up.

All of these problems lead to asthma. As a result, the sufferer finds it hard to breathe properly, and the swelling of the lungs causes an asthma attack. During an asthma attack, the sufferer begins to cough and wheeze in an effort to breathe properly. This can happen at any time and any moment, and can sometimes be severe.

Air purifiers can be very beneficial to asthma patients. There are a number of impurities in the air that can increase asthma. These air impurities include allergens like dust, pet dander, chemicals or pollen. If an asthma sufferer takes in these airborne substances, it makes it tough for them to breathe normally.

An air purifier is used to remove contaminants from indoor air. Thus, a better and cleaner environment can be created for the sufferer indoors. There will be less probability of an asthma attack due to fewer toxins in the air.

It has been proved that most air purifiers are capable of filtering 99.7 percent of all particles from indoor air. An air purifier cleans the air by drawing the air from the room into the system with the help of a fan. After that, the clean air is released back into the room.

It may be a little tough to make a proper selection between the various air purifiers available in the market. While buying an air purifier, it is important to be familiar with the working of the air purifier system. The purpose is to eliminate contaminants, harmful chemicals and odors, so you must look for an air purifier that possesses activated carbon or a UV purification system. It is also essential to get knowledge about the power of the machine and its overall effectiveness.

In conclusion, it is quite good to find a comparative table for air purifiers manufactured under different brands and compare them. This will give you the details about the various brands and models of air purifiers, and grade them on the basis of their effectiveness.

Stefan Rockhaus writes about various air purifiers topics. For more information visit Air Purifiers - Find more articles at Information Point

Asthma, the Buteyko method 6 Edit

With more Buteyko exercises, you will eventually be able to come off all of your Asthma medication. First your relievers, then in time your preventatives. This is only possible if your triggers are exercise, temperature and some allergens (ie: it is possible for some people who are allergic to dust, grasses, pollens and smoke) etc. I don't think Buteyko would help with a food allergy induced Asthma as food is ingested, not inhaled.

Buteyko works for the exercise type triggers because you simply implement the "exercising with less oxygen" theory and your body no longer needs to shut down the esophagus. For allergens, the nose acts as a filter, not allowing the offending particles into your lungs where they usually wreak havoc (a large portion of Asthmatics are mouth breathers). Similarly for temperature, your nose acts as a regulator, altering the temperature of the air before it hits your lungs.

There is one last technique I haven't mentioned yet - but I will write one last article about it as I think it is important both for Asthmatics and also for Non-asthmatics. It's a little weird, but I have convinced many of my Non-asthmatic friends to try it and many of them swear by it! See next week for details!

Are Your Asthma and Allergies Caused by A Low Immune System?

Breath FREE and Enjoy and Active Life Without DRUGS CLICK HERE TO KNOW MORE

>>  INSTANTLY PREVENT YOUR ASTHMA CLICK HERE <<

Many people who suffer from asthma and allergies don't realize it, but a low immune system is very likely at the root of their problems. Medical experts agree that a lowered or improperly functioning immune system can and does result in several diseases such as asthma, allergies, arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome and cancer to name just a few. There are ways to strengthen your immune system, which will help to significantly decrease your allergy and asthma symptoms.

The body's immune systems first line of defense against disease are barriers that prevent antigens, which are large protein molecules of bacteria, viruses, chemicals and other substances that appear harmful from entering your body. The barriers include your skin, mucus, cough reflex, stomach acid and even enzymes in your tears, which destroy toxins. If the antigen or toxin manages to get past these barriers, then the immune system launches a second line of defense, found in your blood. They are white blood cells, which perform a protective function by seeking out and destroying foreign protein antigens.

If you suffer from a low immune system it is important to avoid things that suppress or act to destroy it, such as a high cholesterol diet, heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium), fat, alcohol, fried foods, food additives, obesity, industrial pollutants, pesticides, herbicides, stress, prescription drugs, too much sunlight, tobacco, and radiation.

Unfortunately, there is no "magic bullet" that you can take to quickly repair your immune system, but there are several ways to help build and support it by providing your body with proper nutrition, regular exercise, adequate rest, relaxation and maintaining a positive mental attitude.

Taking the following dietary steps will help protect and build your immune system:

1. Limit saturated and trans fats, food additives and alcohol 2. Take a good quality multi-vitamin/mineral supplement daily 3. Ensure your diet includes adequate protein 4. Take 1000 mg of Vitamin C daily. 5. Eat 3 to 4 servings of vegetables daily. 6. Eat 3 to 4 servings of legumes weekly. 7. Eat 3 to 4 servings of omega-3 fatty acid-rich foods weekly

The length of time required to re-build a low immune system of course will vary depending on your individual situation and environmental exposure to immune system suppressants. This is not an overnight process, for some people it can take three months to two years. Obviously, the higher your exposure has been to immuno-suppressants, the longer it will take to build your immune system. Children tend to heal much more quickly than adults or the elderly. People with allergies and asthma will find that their asthma and allergy symptoms become less frequent and less severe when their immune systems are strong. It's important to avoid using allergy and asthma drugs, which have toxic side effects and act to lower the immune system. There are natural supplements that safely and effectively eliminate allergy and asthma symptoms. To find out more please visit http://www.dramatic-asthma-relief.com/

How to Ease Your Allergies: Quick Relief for Allergy and Asthma Sufferers!

Breath FREE and Enjoy and Active Life Without DRUGS CLICK HERE TO KNOW MORE

>>  INSTANTLY PREVENT YOUR ASTHMA CLICK HERE <<

You may be one of the masses who don't even realize that you have allergies! According to studies, there are about 17 out of every 100 Americans that are allergic, or hypersensitive, to some substances which are known to cause unusual reactions.

What are allergies? According to Wikipedia, "an allergy is a condition of hypersensitivity to a substance (an allergen) considered harmless to most people." Hmmm, most people? In fact, 50 million Americans are estimated to have allergies.

There is no clear apparent medical reason why people contract allergies, but one thing remains clear: the condition is indiscriminate in its coverage and may affect us regardless of age, gender, or race. Commonly, however, the allergy manifests in our infancy or childhood, although some symptoms may appear at any age or may reappear after any period of apparent inactivity.

Most allergies are largely insignificant and may be dealt with by simple lifestyle choices; however, there is a possibility of them either adversely affecting our daily life, or perhaps life-threatening conditions.

As of this writing, if you run a Google search on the word "allergy" you will receive over 32 million results. Sure, some of those are duplicates but that's a pretty substantial number. And that doesn't include other simple search terms.

The bottom line here is that those 50 million Americans already know they have an allergy. That doesn't include all the people who are under the misconception that their suffering is not just a simple cold!

How would you know if you have an allergy?

Below are the most common types of allergies.

- Food Allergies - ignited by certain food types

- Anaphylaxis - triggered by drugs, food, or insect stings

- Respiratory Allergies - triggered by allergens which are airborn

- Contact Allergies - triggered by skin-affecting allergens

- Insect Sting Allergies - triggered by insect venom

Mild Symptoms:

- Tingling, itching, or swelling of your mouth, tongue, lips, or throat

- Tightness feeling in your throat

- Difficulty speaking or swallowing

- Nausea

- Indigestion and abdominal cramps

- Vomiting and diarrhea

- Skin rashes

- Coughing, congestion, wheezing, or sneezing

- Runny, stuffy, or itchy nose

Severe Symptoms:

- Breathing difficulties

- Sweating, dizziness, and faintness

- Rapid or sudden heart rate increase

- Sudden inability or hoarseness to speak

- Extreme and sudden facial itching and swelling

- Anaphylaxis

As children are more susceptible to allergic reactions, the parent must exert extra effort to keep any allergic reaction at bay. Schools are often considered breeding ground for allergens so the parent and school administrators must work hand in hand. The home must also be allergen-proof so the children can go about freely.

Allergic reactions are dangerous and fatal, if left untreated or if the person is more susceptible than usual. It is mandatory that preventive measures must be carried out to avoid the severe symptoms. For more information on allergic reactions, one must ask the family doctor.

Properly diagnosed and treated, allergies need not affect your life in any significant manner.

Pediatric asthma treatment tip: Is it really that dangerous? Can an effective asthma treatment tip help?

Breath FREE and Enjoy and Active Life Without DRUGS CLICK HERE TO KNOW MORE

>>  INSTANTLY PREVENT YOUR ASTHMA CLICK HERE <<

What might our children pay 20 years from now after the full side effects of asthma drugs are known?

Curing pediatric asthma with time bombs.

When you discover that your child is suffering from asthma your doctor will undoubtedly reach for the prescription book. If he is a particularly good doctor he might hand you a couple of leaflets on how best to cope during your child's asthma attack. What he probably won't do is mention the possible side effects of all the drugs your child is going to start taking. And taking. And taking.

Do you really want your kids to have go through this day after day? Isn't there a better way? There is. Pediatric asthma does not have to begin and end with drugs. Drugs which could cause more harm in the longer term than good.

Let's start with what young junior is going to have to take. He'll probably have two inhalers. One called a 'reliever' and another called a 'preventer'. In the reliever you'll find usually one or several types of Bronchodilator. These types of drug work to increase the diameter of the airways. Don't you just love natural remedies? Ok, ready for the bad news?

Here are some of the possible side effects: nausea, actual vomiting, feeling restless and nervous, and finding it impossible to sleep. Depending on the Bronchodilator that your child takes, they could also suffer from headaches, irregular heat beats, diarrhea, depression and leg cramps. The preventers don't have those problems. They are normally made up of Corticosteroids. Which are worse.

Corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory drugs and people have died while switching from oral medication to inhaled medication. Other things to watch out for are mood swings (just what you need in a teenager), coughing, weight gain, muscle weakness, cataracts and osteoporosis. The options available in pediatric asthma are few and far between but they do exist. Would you like to take care of your kid's asthma without drugs?

I did. For years I had to blindly submit to the whims (and down-right boredom) of several doctors. Then I came across a new form of not just living with asthma but beating it too. Many people are now taking advantage of this drug-free method, especially children, who don't have the bodies developed enough to cater for all these drugs.

Pediatric asthma need not be one drug after the next and hoping for the best. Doctors may say that the drugs are safe, but have they done twenty years of tests on them? Do they know what effects these drugs will have on our children's children? Do you want to take the risk, however small?

Is Your Child's Beloved Pet the Cause of an Asthma Attack?

Measures You Can Take to Prevent or Minimize Asthma Attacks Caused by Pets.

That cute little kitten or lovable dog that your child (or partner) can't live without could be making them very sick. Sadly, as much as we love them, cats and dogs are often major asthma triggers for asthma sufferers and can send some to the emergency room. Contrary to what many people believe, it is the dander (dry flakes of skin), not the hair of the animal that actually is the cause of the problem. Your pet's dander is shed continuously, but it is so small that it's difficult to see. The dander is easily airborne and sticks readily to fibers- therefore it goes everywhere and gets on just about everything. If you have rugs and your pet comes inside the house, they are certainly full of it, so is your furniture and beds if they are allowed on them. If you cuddle or play with your pet, it's all over your clothing too. However, this doesn't mean that you have to get rid of Fido or Garfield.

There are a number of alternatives that you can take. Steam cleaning rugs and furniture in your home will help to remove the dander. Using a HEPA vacuum cleaner is also good. If possible, getting rid of rugs is the best solution. Make sure your pet stays out of the asthma sufferer's bedroom. Wash all bedding, floors and walls to remove the dander. Then use a HEPA air purifier at night in the bedroom with the door closed.

Take your pet to the groomer for a shampoo once a week or have a family member wash your pet outside to ensure that the dander level is kept as low as possible. Long haired pets should get clipped shorter. If your pet loves to show their appreciation by licking, this should be discouraged since their saliva will contain dander as well as proteins, which are also an asthma trigger for many asthma sufferers.

If you don't have a pet but your friends or relatives do, even a short visit to their home can cause problems for an asthma sufferer, especially children who can't resist playing with them. When you get home, get your child to take a shower and wash their clothing too to remove the dander.

Living with your beloved pet can be comfortable and symptom free when taking all of these measures. However, if your situation is more serious and your pet still makes you sick, then you may want to try a natural asthma treatment.

When Having Sex Triggers An Asthma Attack- You Don't Have to Live Like a Monk If You Suffer From Asthma

Sex can be a wonderful expression of love between two people, sadly, however for some asthma sufferers all that heavy breathing can actually trigger an asthma attack by drying out the airways. Fortunately, there is a solution that will make you and your partner happy.

Exercise induced asthma is quite common and the general consensus is to avoid those activities that trigger it, but avoiding love-making can certainly put a strain on any relationship.

There are several things that you can do ensure an active love life:

Since the bedroom is often where love-making actives take place, you will need to ensure that dust mites (a major asthma trigger, which live in your bedding and rugs) are reduced as much as possible to help eliminate your asthma symptoms. (see the free Asthma Prevention Report for details)

Moist, warm air prevents the airways from becoming dry, so using a good humidifier in the bedroom/home will help those who live in a dry climate.

Next, if you are out of shape, you will need to increase your fitness level gradually by activities such as yoga, walking, cycling and swimming. Those allergic to chlorine should find a warm lake or sea to swim in. Continuous running can trigger asthma, so team sports that require short bursts of running are far better. Avoiding temperature changes is also important: cold air entering the lungs at a rapid rate will dry out the airways and cause an asthma attack. Working out in the gym is a good alternative to exercising outdoors in cold weather.

When you have strengthened your lungs through exercise and applied the simple preventative measures in the bedroom, you are much more likely to enjoy lovemaking without threat of an asthma attack.

Why a separate title ?Childhood asthma?? First, the majority of asthma cases begin in childhood, making it the number one chronic pediatric illness. Second, asthma is more of a syndrome than a disease that affects adults and children differently. General physicians often fail to diagnose it in early stages and in variant forms resulting, in mismanagement, indiscriminate use of antibiotics, antitussives, and antihistamines, etc, that further complicate and prolong the illness.

Third, although many management approaches are similar, there are significant differences in diagnosis and drug handling in the case of children. It is extremely unwise to consider them as mini-adults and half or reduce the dosage of medicine.

In fact, drug doses are calculated based on the surface area of the child, the maturity of renal, liver and other metabolic systems to handle the load.

Finally, the interaction between the physician and the patient?s parents is the crucial factor. It is often this relationship - the human factor on which the success or failure of treatment plan hinges. This is certainly true of all chronic illnesses but is especially true in properly managing the child with asthma and the family dynamics that result from such a disease.

The treatment of each child should be individualized and requires treating the patient, the parents and the environment. Despite the antiquated health care provider attitude that ?doctor knows best?, many parents are well informed through books, Internet, etc, and are keen to participate in treatment decisions. Nevertheless, clinicians have wisdom from years of experience and scientific knowledge from in-depth study. These must be used for developing a partnership approach to treat the child and the family.

The definition of asthma has changed. The emphasis should be on treatment of underlying pathology that produces symptoms rather than just the treatment of symptoms. Despite the frequency with which it occurs (5 to 22 per cent), childhood asthma is unfortunately not diagnosed correctly or soon enough. There is a tendency to relate the symptoms of asthma to infectious processes and mistreat the child with antibiotics.

There are many reasons for this; the main being that childhood asthma manifests differently than the case in adults and needs specially trained pediatricians to deal with it so that there is no delay. The majority of asthma cases occur before two years of age despite the fact that this is the time when attention to a child?s care and environment is at its highest. Proper treatment at such an early age may have a great impact on the outcome of treatment. Inflammation, if left untreated early, may result in irreversible changes.

It cannot be overemphasized that on examination asthmatic children may have typical fancies and many peculiarities, but may not have typical features, which are found in adults. Therefore, they deserve specific attention by trained doctors. There are millions of children who have yet to receive the benefit of correct diagnosis and treatment. They are losing their childhood. Let us not make children ?Therapeutic Orphans? due to our follies or gains.

Asthma Treatment, Asthma Symptoms and Asthma Prevention

More than 17 million people in the US alone suffer from asthma, a serious lung ailment, resulting in 5,000 asthma deaths a year. Asthma is an allergic inflammation of the lungs, which is generally triggered by pollens, molds, dust, animal dander, air pollution, chemicals, exercise, temperature changes or ingestion of certain foods.

During an asthma attack the walls of the lungs become inflamed and the mucus membranes fill with fluid and thick, sticky mucus making it difficult to breathe. Asthma symptoms can include a scratchy throat, coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing and a tight feeling in the chest. An asthma attack can be mild, moderate or severe and lasting for a few minutes, hours, or even several days.

Knowing when to get emergency help for a severe attack can save your life. If you are experiencing the following, you should seek immediate medical attention:

-your medication does not control your symptoms

-you have extreme difficulty breathing, talking and walking,

-your fingernails or lips are turning blue,

-your chest feels tight and your ribs are pulled inward as you breathe,

-your nostrils flare when you breathe

(References: Adams Francis V. The Asthma Source Book 1998; American Academy of Family Physicians)

Unfortunately, many widely prescribed asthma drugs can have serious and even fatal side effects. Salmeterol, the medication used in Advair and Serevent appeared to trigger fatal attacks in some users. Additional side effects of these drugs are: liver dysfunction and damage, increased heart rate, blood pressure, heart beat irregularities, chest pain tremor, nervousness, worsening of bronchiospasm (life-threatening), allergic reactions: skin rash, hives, swelling, bronchiospasm, and anaphylaxis (life-threatening), worsening of diabetes and lowering of potassium, potentially fatal heart complications.

Asthma Prevention

Doctors and researchers agree that the single most important thing that parents can do to prevent their child from developing asthma in the first place is to eliminate or significantly reduce dust mite allergens or asthma triggers in the home.

"Clinical studies have revealed that avoidance of dust mite allergens in early childhood can prevent the onset of asthma..." Michael LeNoir Md

Dust mite allergens are known to play a major role in it's development. Researchers have determined that other important allergens (after dust mites) that also need to be eliminated from the home are cats, certain types of mold, dogs, cockroaches and tobacco smoke. It is a popular misconception that children will "outgrow" asthma. It is a severe and potentially life-threatening illness that should be taken seriously. Long term use of steroid drugs is not recommended by doctors and has serious side effects. Making these preventative environmental changes is a much more viable, healthy and preferable alternative. If you or your child are already suffering from asthma or allergies these measures will certainly help.

Beating asthma in your home

>>  INSTANTLY PREVENT YOUR ASTHMA CLICK HERE <<

Asthma is the most widespread chronic health problem in Australia affecting one in four children, one in seven teenagers, one in ten adults, hospitalising more children than any other illness and resulting in 15 deaths a week in Australia.

Allergic reactions such as those associated with asthma are caused by a reaction to allergens. Some of the worst allergens for asthma are- * dust mites * cat allergens (microscopic flakes of cat skin) * mould growth from condensation

Research shows that in homes where allergens are reduced asthma symptoms often improve and the chances of infants becoming allergic and developing asthma are less.

The information in this article is to show that you can minimise the effects and impact of allergens in your home specifically, to maintain a healthier lifestyle. We will look specifically at floor finishes and heating. Keep in mind that other factors which cam help keep your home healthier include minimising toxins from products like melamine, carpet and paints.

An energy efficient home is a healthier home also. However the most significant area of conflict between healthy and energy efficient homes is the requirement in energy efficient homes to 'seal the building up' to prevent warm/heated air from escaping and cold air from entering your home (or vice versa). This can be addressed through a suitable ventilation system, however th etopic deserves more discussion on its own.

Beating asthma in your home Designing and maintaining a low allergen home will help beat asthma. Minimise dust flow and allow for easy dust removal will help reduce dust mite breeding areas. Two areas that can be addressed straight away in your home to make it a healthier place include floor finishes and type of heating.

Floor finishes: Smooth, hard floor finishes are preferred over carpets. Mites cannot breed on timber, cork or linoleum floors. Hard floors are also much easier to keep clear of dust and other allergens.

Regular cleaning of your floors is important. The aim is to remove allergen material without putting it into the air. This can be achieved by using a damp cloth to clean surfaces.

Steam cleaning of carpets temporarily removes surface allergens. Regular steam cleaning is required, as regular vacuuming removes dust but not the live mites. Make sure your vacuum cleaner has an effective filtration system to keep allergens out of the air. A built-in ducted vacuum system is preferable, since it doesn't redistribute dust around the room.

If carpet is your preferred floor covering then choose a short pile with synthetic fibre and a rubber underlay.

Heating Asthma Tasmania recommends electric heating as the best choice for asthma sufferers. Electric heaters do not need oxygen to operate (even wood and gas heaters, which are filtered, burn oxygen). Electric heaters don't create extra moisture in the air, therefore helping prevent mould growth.

Wood heaters release tiny particles into the air both inside and out, which are known causes of respiratory problems. They are so minute that they can lodge within the respiratory system and remain there for life. If you are sensitive to dry air, choose an electric heating model which does not distribute heat by using a fan.

Fan heaters have a tendency to dry out the air and they can move dust around a room. There are plenty of models and styles to choose which don't blow air around, for example Panel Heaters, Radiant Heaters, Heat banks, Radiant Ceiling Heating, Under Carper Heating, Off Peak Storage Banks or Under-floor Heating.

Some heat pump models and most ducted electric heating systems are fitted with fitters to trap dust. These filters should be changed as recommended by the manufacturer to eliminate dust problems.

Generally radiant, natural convection electric or slab heating is preferred -- it doesn't consume room oxygen or generate moist combustion fumes, and doesn't use fans, which can circulate dust and dry the air.

Next time we will look at how to address furinishings and ventilation to keep your home healthy.

This article is about the advantages of the Zoey asthma kit - Is it a good asthma treatment control?

It is most unpleasant to have to watch your child develop and then try to cope with asthma. They are just too little to understand what it means and why they have problems breathing. The feeling of being useless in helping a child understand their illness better is common in all patients whose children suffer from asthma. This is precisely why Zoey asthma has been developed, it is

The Zoey asthma kit is literally packed with good ideas to help both child and parent understand asthma. First of all there is a parent's workbook. This 112 page guide explains how they should manage their son or daughter's asthma, minimizing the complexity involved.

The child's workbook follows the same format and is full of activities to keep the kids interested and informed. Children are taught what triggers to look out for and how to minimize them. This is also great for parents who wouldn't normally have a clue as to what a trigger is. The two books also cover the correct use of the peak flow meter, the spacer, and inhalers.

What would you do if your child had an asthma attack? How would you avoid him or her (or yourself for that matter) from panicking? With the Zoey asthma parent's workbook you are shown in a clear, easy to follow manner which will really put your mind at ease.

Zoey asthma makes your child learn about their condition in a colorful, easy to follow and fun educational trip. Also included in the kit is a coloring book for your child to complete and a peak flow meter, which monitors how well your child's lungs are working to give an indication of when the next asthma attack will take place.

All in all, this Zoey asthma kit provides valuable information for all the family, and takes some of the unpleasantness out of an unpleasant illness.

Asthma Treatment -Dangerous Asthma Drug Side Effects Plus A Safe, Effective Alternative

Asthma is an allergic inflammation of the lungs, which can be triggered by air pollutants, pollens, molds, dust, animal dander, chemicals, exercise, foods or even changes in temperature.

These triggers produce allergens, which are then absorbed into the blood stream causing the B cells or white blood cells to produce billions of molecules of the antibody IgE These IgE molecules in the bloodstream then combine with the mast cells, which line the blood vessels or basophils, a type of white blood cell.

Mast cells and basophils both contain histamine and serotonin, and the antibody IgE causes the mast cells and basophils to leak the histamine and serotonin into the blood stream. In addition to this, the production of a group of fatty acids called lucotrienes or Lt's are the cause of asthma symptoms. Lt's are formed by the combination or action of two enzymes, phospholipase A2 and lipxygenase.

When you experience an asthma attack the walls of the lungs become inflamed and the mucus membranes fill with fluid and thick, sticky mucus making it difficult to breathe. Common asthma symptoms are a scratchy throat, coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing and a tight feeling in the chest. An asthma attack can be mild, moderate or severe and lasting for a few minutes, hours, or even several days.

Knowing when to get emergency help for a severe attack can save your life. If you are experiencing the following, you should seek immediate medical attention:

-medication does not seem to be helping you
-extreme difficulty breathing, talking and walking,
-your fingernails or lips are turning blue,
-chest feels tight and your ribs are pulled inward as you breathe,
-nostrils are flaring when you breathe

(References: Adams Francis V. The Asthma Source Book 1998; American Academy of Family Physicians)

Unfortunately, many widely prescribed asthma drugs can have serious and even fatal side effects. Drug company GlaxoSmithKline's study of Salmeterol, the medication used in Advair and another Glaxo asthma product, Serevent. appeared to trigger fatal attacks in some users. Three times more patients taking the medicine died of asthma than those not taking it.

If you are currently taking asthma medication and are experiencing side effects, you should know that there really is a safe, natural and effective drug-free alternative asthma treatment. Read what a doctor has to say about the Asthma Relief Report:

"I purchased your Asthma Relief Report last year and I've had great success with your asthma treatment. Again, blessings to you for sharing this. For a number of years, each fall, I would get severe asthma attacks on a few occasions each season. At first I would go to the hospital where they would pump me up with prednisone, then have to be on it for a week. For the last few years, I have just had prescription asthma medication and used it as necessary w/o hospital visits. I've not had to take even 10 mg of prednisone since starting this! Since I practice alternative medicine and didn't like to have to use the asthma drug, period, it was enlightening to see your article and put the information to use. Thank you!" Dr. Cathy Kush, West Chicago, Illinois.

This powerful alternative supplement, which is explained in detail in The Asthma Relief Report, acts to support the mast cells and basophils, stabilizing the cell walls, preventing them from spilling histamine and serotonin into the bloodstream.

In addition to this, it also prevents the production of a group of fatty acids called leucotrienes or Lt's which is the primary cause of asthma symptoms.

Lt's are formed by the combination or action of two enzymes, phospholipase A2 and lipxygenase. This supplement combination also acts as a powerful inhibitor of these two enzymes.

Additional Health Benefits:

These natural supplements also have healing properties that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and antihistamines lack by repairing tissues, fibers, and membranes, they actually strengthen the entire respiratory system. In addition to relieving symptoms, the supplement decreases allergies and asthma symptoms over time by regenerating tissues.

Here is additional feedback from life-long asthma suffers who used the information in the Asthma Relief Report to get off harmful asthma drugs:

"I was diagnosed with asthma at age 14. I am 38 now and had been on ventolin, steroids, etc... for all my adult life, and advair for the last 3+ years. I ordered your Asthma Relief Report, and on Jan. 1st..., as a New Years resolution, I began slowly removing my inhalers from my daily routine. I am amazed beyond words. Today I use NO asthma medications. NONE !!! I play tennis, ride bikes, swim, run with my kids, and never have a wheeze attack or phlegm build up in my lungs. ( I always had both before your report ) Thank You so much for your help. May God bless the truths you speak." Dave McCreary MA. USA

"I was indeed delighted to find the solution to be simple and affordable. My son and I took the recommended doses according to the research in your Asthma Relief Report. My breathing became deeper in a day. It took my son a few days to respond, but he is now sleeping at night lying down and no longer coughing and wheezing at bedtime. We both thank you for your persistent research and simple yet effective solution to asthma." - T. Kowalchuk, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

ASTHMA AND YOU.

Breath FREE and Enjoy and Active Life Without DRUGS CLICK HERE TO KNOW MORE

>>  INSTANTLY PREVENT YOUR ASTHMA CLICK HERE <<

History

Many people that have Asthma, may have an individual and/or family history of allergies. To diagnose asthma, a doctor relies solely on taking a medical history and combines it with a physical examination.

Allergies.

Allergy testing may be may be helpful in identifying allergens, but in sensitive individuals, asthma symptoms can be triggered by inhaled allergens (allergy triggers), such as pet hair, dust mites, moulds or pollens. Patients with delayed pattern food allergy have the most persistent inflammatory form of chronic asthma. Those who have a nasal allergy often have asthma that may be triggered by it.

Developing Asthma.

Half of the people who have asthma develop it before they are 10 years old, and most develop it before 30. There are people who develop allergic asthma in their 70s and there are young children whose asthma is not allergic. Children with asthma often complain of an itchy upper chest or develop a dry cough, which may be the only sign of asthma.

Asthma Attacks.

During an attack, the smooth muscles of the lungs go into spasm, with the surrounding tissue enflamed and secreting mucus into the airways. The causes of an attack are, however, well understood by both doctors and patients. Child care providers need to recognise when a child is suffering an attack in order to prevent severe and prolonged effects. Nonetheless, an acute attack usually occurs during a cold or cough caused by a viral infection. Pay attention to worsening asthma as it may prevent a serious attack.

Smoking and Asthma.

Cigarette smoke is a powerful trigger of symptoms. Children born prematurely or those exposed to tobacco smoke are more likely to develop the disease. Prenatal and post postnatal exposure to second-hand smoke is indicated in the development of asthma. Non-smoking messages should be advertised in schools to reduce the likelihood of children smoking and thus be prone to asthma.

Stress and Asthma.

Stress could aggravate the disease in children according to a London University's research. It is well known that fighting stress helps fight asthma. People think that there is a connection between genetic makeup and the disease. There isn't - it only makes one more susceptible. If asthma is triggered by emotional stress, then a stress reduction programme could be considered. Sport during the summer causes less stress than during the winter. Exercise induced asthma occurs most often during intense activity in cold dry air.

Can it be Contolled?

Yes, it can! With good control almost all people can lead normal, active lives. Control medication on a regular basis helps prevent symptoms from occurring. When asthma is not under control, the airways become restricted and inflamed, with increased mucus production that further obstructs the airways. To keep it under control, it is important to be well educated about your asthma and how to manage it.

Known Allergens.

Allergies are triggers for asthma. If you are allergic to pets, certain foods, dust mites etc, remove them from your environment wherever possible. Be asthma aware. Every asthmatic responds differently to triggers. As a parent, try not to be overly protective of an asthmatic child. The key to living with the disease is to be very aware. If you need to carry medication make sure you always have it with you, and NEVER run our of it. Make sure you always have a backup, in the car, at home or in the office. Encourage children to emulate what you preach.

Finally, approximately one quarter of asthmatic children have their symptoms disappear as they grow older - yes it is possible to grow out of the disease!

Asthma Inhalers - Introduction

Breath FREE and Enjoy and Active Life Without DRUGS CLICK HERE TO KNOW MORE

>>  INSTANTLY PREVENT YOUR ASTHMA CLICK HERE <<

The following article includes pertinent information that may cause you to reconsider what you thought you understood. The most important thing is to study with an open mind and be willing to revise your understanding if necessary.

Inhalers have changed the way that doctors treat asthma completely. Asthma inhalers can deliver medicine directly to the lungs just about anytime or anyplace that an asthma attack happens. Portable, easy to use and commonly accepted, asthma inhalers are a key to independence for many asthma sufferers.

While there are other parts to an asthma treatment plan, asthma inhalers are the part that can make it possible for those who have asthma to engage in regular daily activities - including sports and other activities - without fear. Knowing what type of inhalers you can use and how to use them can help you manage your life so that asthma doesn't manage you.

Definition: Asthma inhalers are portable, usually hand-held devices used to deliver medication directly to the lungs. There are two kind of inhalers:

* Metered-dose inhalers. A metered dose asthma inhaler delivers medication by means of a chemical propellant - like a fluorocarbon. Usually, the medicationis released by pressing the inhaler canister into a base - similar to a spray can. As the name says - it delivers a metered, or measured dose.

* Dry powder inhalers. With the concerns about fluorocarbons and chemicals damaging the atmosphere, manufacturers have come up with other ways to deliver medication in inhalers. In a dry powder inhaler, medication is delivered in a powder rather than a fine mist.

Types of Medication in Asthma Inhalers

* Short-acting bronchodilators. Often called 'rescue inhalers', short-acting bronchodilators relieve asthma symptoms immediately in an emergency situation by relaxing the muscles around the bronchial tubes. The effects last 4-8 hours. They include albuterol and pirbuterol.

* Long-acting bronchodilators. Salmeterol and formoterol are also bronchodilators, but the effects are longer lasting. Long-acting bronchodilators are NOT for use in an emergency situation. Instead, they are used to relax bronchial muscles for longer periods of time as treatment for chronic problems.

It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of Asthma Inhalers is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about Asthma Inhalers.

* Corticosteroids. Inhaled corticosteroids are used as a long-term preventative medication. They work by reducing the underlying bronchial and pulmonary inflammation. Most are prescribed for use once or twice a day on an ongoing basis.

* Cromolyn or nedocromil are two nonsteroid medications that are used to prevent and manage inflammation in the long term.

* Corticosteroid + long-acting bronchodilator. This medication combines a corticosteroid and a long-acting bronchodilator (Advair).

How to Use Asthma Inhalers

Your doctor may give you slightly different instructions for using the asthma inhaler prescribed for you, but in general, the instructions for using an asthma inhaler depend on which type of inhaler it is.

A metered dose inhaler comes in a pressurized canister. When you press down on the top of the canister, one measured dose of medication is converted into a fine mist. To use the metered dose inhaler, hold it in front of your mouth or against your lips and be ready to inhale. You must be able to inhale and press down on the canister at the same time. This can be difficult for young children, who often are prescribed an asthma inhaler with a spacer or a face mask to make it easier for them to use.

When you use a dry powder inhaler, you don't need to coordinate breath and press. Instead, you put your lips on the mouthpiece and take a sharp, deep breath to pull in one dose of powdered medication. Dry powder asthma inhalers are available in several different types.

Those who only know one or two facts about Asthma Inhalers can be confused by misleading information. The best way to help those who are misled is to gently correct them with the truths you're learning here.

Please visit MyHealth-Info.com for more information on asthma inhalers.
