Yogic Diet for Asthma

Yoga lays great emphasis on diet and insists on avoiding common dietary errors. Sattvic (pure) foods form the ideal diet for an asthmatic. They are both, nourishing as well as easy to digest. An asthmatic?s diet should ideally be lacto-vegetarian. Research has proven that a predominantly vegetarian diet is best for them. Meat proteins take longer to digest and tend to be put a burden on the metabolic system. Non-vegetarians may start by cutting down on red meat, then gradually eliminate it altogether. Later, as they develop a taste for vegetarian fare, they will find themselves giving up other meats, poultry, fish, and eggs, too. However, seafoods, if not fried, have been proven beneficial to asthmatics.

An asthmatic?s diet should ideally contain a limited quantity of carbohydrates, fats and proteins (they are acid-forming), with liberal helpings of alkaline foods like fresh fruits, green vegetables and germinated grains and pulses. Have plenty of dried fruits, like prunes, oranges or berries or a few black raisins with honey. Also have lots of salads of raw vegetables like beets, tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, lettuce and wheat bread with one or two green vegetables, saut?ed or slightly cooked.

Asthmatics should always eat less than their full capacity as it bears down upon the chest, resulting in a feeling of over-fullness and discomfort. Besides, they should pay careful attention to eating slowly, chewing their food well. They should also drink anywhere between six to ten glasses of water daily, but avoid liquids during meals.

Vitamins and Minerals for Asthma

1. Vitamin A plays a vital role in curing asthma. Beta-carotene A precursor to Vitamin A is found abundantly in carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, winter squashes, cantaloupe, pink grapefruit, apricots, broccoli, and spinach. The more intense the color of a fruit or vegetable, the higher is the beta-carotene content.

2. Vitamin B-6 enhances the autoimmune function and formation of hemoglobin. It is amply found in beans, nuts, legumes, eggs, meats, fish, whole grains, and fortified breads and cereals.

3. Vitamin C is another highly beneficial ingredient. Apples, apricots, avocadoes, breadfruit, blackberries, blackcurrants, blueberries, kiwifruits, jujubes, melons, cantaloupess, peaches and pears are rich in Vitamin C.

4. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that increases the blood capacity to carry oxygen. It is found in wheat germ, corn, nuts, seeds, olives, spinach, asparagus, and other green leafy vegetables and vegetable oils.

5. Zinc is an immune-enhancer that supports the adrenal glands. It is found in profusion in the following: baked beans, raisin bran, black, dried, peas, oatmeal and mixed nuts, particularly unsalted, roasted peanuts, almonds and walnuts.

6. Selenium is an antioxidant that protects the immune system from hypersensitivity. Brazil nuts, dried, oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat bread, black, dried, walnuts are all selenium rich foods.

7. Essential fatty acids, particularly omega-3 oils are extremely beneficial in reducing inflammation and alleviating asthma attacks. They are found abundantly in vegetarian foods like almonds, walnuts, pumpkin and flax seeds.

8. Tulsi or Holy Basil is one of the most beloved Ayurvedic herbs that helps reduce mucus and symptoms of irritability. The chemical eugenol, found in Tulsi is one of the most active constituents that contributes to its therapeutic effects.

1. Common food allergens that tend to trigger an asthma attack include eggs, fish, shellfish, milk, chocolate, citrus fruits, food preservatives and coloring.

2. Remember an apple a day, keeps the doctor away. They are rich in flavonoids that function as antioxidants and reduce inflammation.

Relief From Allergies And Asthma

Asthma is often diagnosed when you cannot control your breathing. You may wheeze, have a dry cough, a feeling of tightness in the chest, and shortness of breath. This is due to a narrowing of the air passageways to the lungs. This can be brought on by a tightening of the muscles, swelling, and inflammation. Asthma is normally triggered by an allergy or certain activities that irritate the lungs. When you are having an allergy attack, your airways may constrict and you may have difficultly breathing. These symptoms can be even more severe when you have asthma. Your chest may feel heavy and you may need oxygen support or an inhaler to open the airways to your lungs.

To help prevent or lessen the severity of your asthma attacks, you may need to do a lot of cleaning. It may be advisable to invest in an air filter that removes any mold spores found in a room. You will want to eliminate any dust lying around. Dust is one of the primary triggers that cause full-blown asthma attacks. You may need to ensure that you do not have any dust mites or bed bugs in your room. You should also try to eradicate any harmful food allergens.

You can avoid ingesting a food allergen by checking food labels and reading ingredient lists. This is one way to help reduce the liklihood of an asthma attack from a food allergen. You may also want to clean your air conditioner and heating ducts. You can have this done professionally in order to reduce the mold spores and pollen in the air. You will want to consult your doctor about your allergies if you suffer from asthma. You should make your doctor aware of any allergies you think you may have developed, but takes on special importance if you are asthmatic.

If you know that you have allergies and you suffer from asthma, it is vital that you take precautions such as cleaning your home, as well as avoiding certain areas and activities that you know to trigger your asthma. Prevention of an attack is the best course of action. However, if you do suffer an attack, there are inhalers and injections available that can help you stay calm while the asthma attack is occurring.

German Medicine Homoeopathy For Asthma, Migraine And Chronic Ailments

Dr. R. Thiyagarajan is a versatile personality - a leading homoeopath, psychologist, educationalist, researcher and so on.

He is exploring the homoeopathic healing powers in his website homoeocare.com extensively and visiting Sri Lanka. U.K., France and number of other global destinations monthly to share the wealth of his knowledge on homoeopathic healing powers for the last 10 years.

Some of his regular patients are ranging from the rural folks in Sri Lanka to the high officials in the World Bank.

I met Dr. R. Thiyagarajan recently in search of more on the healing power of the homoeopathy which was once introduced and inspired to me by Dr. Mohideen A. Rahaman, a homoeopath from Sri Lanka who is practising for the last three decades just opposite the colonial era Roxy Theatre of Colombo city.

Dr. Thiyagarajan is a healer with a human touch in diagnosing and solving problems whether it is physical or emotional. His Homoeocare Hospital in Trichi, a southern town of south Indian state of Tamil Nadu is witnessing his personal achievements.

His expanded hospital was recently opened in the presence of Parliamentarians, allopathic physicians, surgeons, skin specialists and so on, is an another recognition for him and the homoeopathy in large.

Dr. R. Thiyagarajan emphasized with much enthusiasm the developments of homoeopathy. He says: Ever since the birth of homoeopathy in Germany, in the year 1794, it has been practised by the doctors world over, However, the actual benefits of the homeopathic medical science have not reached every one.

As a result, millions of sufferers of chronic diseases are deprived of the homoeopathic treatment simply because of the ignorance about its existence! This is indeed cruel, as in the age of information, deprivation of the homeopathic advantage merely because of the lack of information is intolerable.

It is now possible for you to ask and know about the role of homoeopathy for a specific disease condition. For instance, you may ask: 'Does homeopathy have anything to offer for the treatment of Migraine or Asthma?' You will be offered genuine information as to what homoeopathy could offer for the said complaint.

You will be informed about the scope and limitation of homeopathy with respect to various diseases. However, it is not within the scope of this service to prescribe you any medicine over the Internet. If you want to consider homoeopathic treatment, you will be sent necessary information for the same.

Unlike other medicines, Homoeopathy medicines usually do not have any side effects. Their ability to cause structural damage is nil. The reason for this is that Homoeopathy medicines act by stimulating the body's own defense mechanism and healing powers. They do not have any chemical action, so they do not have the potential to cause any sustained damage.

The doses are given in sub-physiological quantities. So they can be given to children and adults alike without worrying about the dosage. Safe for every one.

Homoeopathy medicines are very effective - in both acute and chronic conditions. Homoeopathy in fact, is the only system of medicine which offers curative treatment (not palliative) to a large number of chronic ailments which have been labeled as 'incurable' by other schools of medicine. Homoeopathy medicines, if selected properly, give results faster than any other systems of medicine.

Homoeopathy medicine are usually dispensed as sweet sugar pills, which are very easy to take. Due to this reason, children readily agree to take Homeopathy medicines.

Homoeopathy treatment is affordable: Homoeopathy medicines are usually much cheaper than comparable allopathic and ayurvedic drugs. And also there is little stress on costly diagnostic procedures as homeopaths rely on the symptoms to find the right medicine for a person. So the overall cost of treatment is very little.

Still this may not appear so to many people in Western countries as Homoeopathy treatment is usually not covered by insurance companies. But that's myopic vision.

One has to think of long-term gains. Under proper Homoeopathy treatment not only the person's immediate complaints improve, but also his/her susceptibility to disease decreases as there is a general improvement in health. So in the long run, there is better health, less medical consultations and the cumulative cost is very low. Even otherwise, hasn't some wise man said. .."Health is the real Wealth"?....

Homoeopathy considers the complaints of a patient in totality. It views a person as a whole, as an integrated entity, and not as a mere collection of body parts. So it treats the person as a whole too. Thus one does not have to visit ten different 'specialists' for his/her ten different body parts. After all our body is more than a collection of parts! So Homoeopathy saves your time, money and health at the same time.

Pediatric asthma treatment tip: Is it really that dangerous? Can an effective asthma treatment tip help?

Breath FREE and Enjoy and Active Life Without DRUGS CLICK HERE TO KNOW MORE

What might our children pay 20 years from now after the full side effects of asthma drugs are known?

Curing pediatric asthma with time bombs.

When you discover that your child is suffering from asthma your doctor will undoubtedly reach for the prescription book. If he is a particularly good doctor he might hand you a couple of leaflets on how best to cope during your child's asthma attack. What he probably won't do is mention the possible side effects of all the drugs your child is going to start taking. And taking. And taking.

Do you really want your kids to have go through this day after day? Isn't there a better way? There is. Pediatric asthma does not have to begin and end with drugs. Drugs which could cause more harm in the longer term than good.

Let's start with what young junior is going to have to take. He'll probably have two inhalers. One called a 'reliever' and another called a 'preventer'. In the reliever you'll find usually one or several types of Bronchodilator. These types of drug work to increase the diameter of the airways. Don't you just love natural remedies? Ok, ready for the bad news?

Here are some of the possible side effects: nausea, actual vomiting, feeling restless and nervous, and finding it impossible to sleep. Depending on the Bronchodilator that your child takes, they could also suffer from headaches, irregular heat beats, diarrhea, depression and leg cramps. The preventers don't have those problems. They are normally made up of Corticosteroids. Which are worse.

Corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory drugs and people have died while switching from oral medication to inhaled medication. Other things to watch out for are mood swings (just what you need in a teenager), coughing, weight gain, muscle weakness, cataracts and osteoporosis. The options available in pediatric asthma are few and far between but they do exist. Would you like to take care of your kid's asthma without drugs?

I did. For years I had to blindly submit to the whims (and down-right boredom) of several doctors. Then I came across a new form of not just living with asthma but beating it too. Many people are now taking advantage of this drug-free method, especially children, who don't have the bodies developed enough to cater for all these drugs.

Pediatric asthma need not be one drug after the next and hoping for the best. Doctors may say that the drugs are safe, but have they done twenty years of tests on them? Do they know what effects these drugs will have on our children's children? Do you want to take the risk, however small?

If you know that you or your family member has asthma you should know what sets the asthma off. Sometimes avoiding these things can prevent asthma attacks for starting. Just by following these few steps can cut back on your asthma from flaring up.

1. Place dust free covers on pillows and mattresses to cut back on allergies kicking in while sleeping.

2. Purchase vent filters for each vent in your home. It will cut back on air borne particles that can get asthma irritated. If you can?t get the whole home at least get the room the asthma patient sleeps in.

3. If you have carpet in your home it will help tremendously if you replace it with hard wood floors or vinyl flooring. Again if it is not possible to do the whole house at least do the asthma patients room.

4. It is a good idea to have a nebulizer at home with steroid medication and having an inhaler with the asthma patient at all times

5. Talk to your doctor about putting you on an everyday asthma prevention medication. Some popular brands that are out there are: Singular, Allegra, and Zyrtec. These are just a few that you can ask your doctor about.

6. Most important is having an Asthma Action Plan just in case the asthma was to get out of hand by something that you are not aware of. A plan of action allows you to know exactly what to do. It will cut back on panic modes.

These are just a few things that you can do to help prevent your asthma from getting out of hand. These few steps have saved my family a few emergency room visits. These are from my experience only. You should contact your doctor for the right plan for you and your family.

Asthma Symptoms and Concerns

Symptoms in asthmatics can vary tremendously between patients with each person having their own unique mix of symptoms including the severity and how often or how frequently they affect the sufferer.

To some asthma is an occasional feeling of tightness in the chest and a cough but for others the attacks can be so severe that they can become life threatening.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease that makes airways (bronchial tubes) particularly sensitive to irritants, and this is characterized by...

*A restriction of the air passages in the lungs causing breathing difficulties due to increased resistance to airflow.

*Rapid changes in airway restrictions.

*The effects can be significantly reversed using drugs that resemble adrenaline, known as the beta2 agonists.

*Significant reversibility of the restriction problems with steroid drugs.

*Symptom-free periods, where the patient feels and act fine.

*Frequent occurrence of allergies.

*Bronchial hyper-responsiveness (air being breathed in) to non-specific stimuli such as cold air or histamine.

The symptoms of asthma include:

*Coughing that may become worse at night or first thing in the morning causing sleep disruption. Sometimes this is the only sign of asthma in a child.

*A wheezing or whistling sound when you breathe, especially when you have a cold or other illness.

*A tightness feeling in the chest, as if someone is squeezing your chest.

*A feeling that you have a shortness of breath.

*Faster or noisy breathing.

Asthma symptoms can be brought,, triggered, by factors including exercise such as running or biking, especially during cold weather, prolonged crying or laughing or when exposed to allergens and irritants.

All asthmatics will not have these symptoms, those that do will notice that they may vary from one asthma attack to another and in severity. Attacks can vary from the mildly annoying, to those that are serious enough to prevent what you want to do and they can even be so serious that they are life threatening and you need to get urgent medical attention.

Symptoms also differ in how often they affect you, some patients have attacks daily whereas others have problems once a week or month. With the correct treatment and management, most asthmatics can expect to have minimal symptoms and can lead active, normal lives.

Asthma Symptoms of Note

*Asthma is a chronic inflammation that makes airways (the bronchial tubes) extra sensitive to irritants, and this leads to difficulty in breathing.

*The predominate symptoms of asthma include coughing, especially at night, wheezing, a tight feeling in the chest, and shortness of breath.

*The symptoms vary from person to person, as well as in severity and frequency.

*With good management and the correct treatment, most asthmatics can lead active, normal lives.

Remedies for Asthma or Allergies

A lot people have asthma. My daughter, 41 years, included. She has suffered from attacks for many years. Recently I encounter three natural remedies that I asked my daughter to try. I have not yet received a report on these, so I would like to pass them on to you. Here is the first one.

Boswellia

Boswellia, an herb, is known for its anti-inflammatory abilities and its usefulness in reduces the effects of bronchitis, asthma, cough, laryngitis, and fever. It comes from the resin of a tree in India and made into a pill or cream. It is best known for use in arthritis.

Recommended dose is: 150mg three times a day.

Yamoa

Yamoa is an herbal powder treatment for Asthma, which is derived from the bark of an African gum tree. It is available in capsule and has been typically used to help asthma. It has a good history of helping asthma sufferers.

Minor Blue Dragon formula

The Minor Blue Dragon is a Chinese herbal formula. Another name for it is xiao-qing-long-tang, or XQLT. It's a blend of eight herbal medicines used to treat asthma for centuries in Asia

The XQLT formula has been used effectively for bronchial asthma for centuries and it is said to have an even more powerful bronchodilator effect than prescription drugs.

This formulation contains ephedra, which has been banned in the US in diet formulas. However, ephedra in this formula is considered safe, since the formula only contains around 15% of this herb. The other ingredients in XQLT are paeonia alba, cinnamon, pinellia, ginger, schisandar, asarum, and glycyrrhiza. Nutritional Supplements That Help Reduce Asthma

Antioxidants

In addition to the above herbs it is also important to take a good supply of antioxidants - especially vitamins A, C, and E, carotenoids, and selenium. Taking antioxidants helps to reduce the irritating effects of airborne free radicals, which can activate an asthma attack.

Magnesium

Magnesium has been shown to reduce the risk of developing asthma and might also be helpful in reducing asthma. Magnesium is also good for asthmatics because it helps to dilate the bronchioles. Also, make sure that plenty of water is drunk daily, which thins mucus. The recommended dosage of magnesium is 200-600 mg/day.

MSM

MSM has also proven useful for asthma aside from being beneficial for arthritis, allergies, fatigue, back pain, sinusitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, autoimmune diseases, and many other conditions. Start with 2000mg of MSM per day but be sure to take 50 to 150 micrograms of molybdenum daily since MSM needs molybdenum to activate it properly.

I was able to find a product that already has the proper molybdenum in the MSM, which makes it convenient to take just one pill. Go to google and put in the words "MSM molybdenum" and you will find some web sites that sell this MSM combination.
